During the first week of October 2021, Ends of the Earth Cycling held our Second Annual Break Every Chain Virtual Tour uniting 37 cyclists from across the country who together rode more than 3,000 miles over five days and raised over $10,000 to promote and resource youth ministry in Kenya.

Last October, Child Sponsorship partnered with Ends of the Earth Cycling for their Break Every Chain Ride to raise funds for Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Camps at AfricaHope in Kenya. In March, AfricaHope used these funds to host an OVC Camp for over 100 children.

“I always look forward to moments like these, where we can bring together all our kids in the direct give program. [We get to] listen to them figure out their ambitious dreams, share the word of God through our daily fellowships, [talk] about life and the importance of education, provide psychosocial support (group counseling), create crafts, and share amazing meals as we create long-lasting memories.”

- Eunice, Camp Director

Excited, eager, and energetic, the children arrived at AfricaHope for a five-day, fun-filled camp that offered them the opportunity to focus on being a child, playing with their friends, and learning about Jesus. They were able to leave behind the worries and concerns of the poverty they normally face daily.

“Child Sponsorship camp is a wonderful place surrounded by prayerful students on one side and amazing staff on the other. Being here gives me an opportunity for personal and spiritual growth, learning about the Bible, discipleship, and making lifelong friends.”

- Lempiris, student leader of morning devotions

For the first three days the camp focused on fellowship, Bible teaching, dramas, crafts, and mentorship. For the last two, counseling and small group discussions were the main topics. Girls and boys were divided into separate small groups so that the staff could facilitate open conversations about academics, menstrual health, hygiene management, early marriages, and dropping out of school.

Christine was so glad she decided to attend the camp this year. During the evening girls-only talks, she stepped out of her comfort zone and led a discussion about self-awareness. This experience lifted her self-confidence and a sense of purpose. She is inspired to develop the skills and talents she's been given.

“There can be no better learning experience than...to come to this camp and discover new ideas and approaches to life, get mentored, and fellowship with other Christians...Absolutely fantastic, and long may it continue.”

- Christine, OVC Camper

The life transformation happening at these camps is beautiful. God is moving in each sponsored child’s life. Thank you for sharing God’s love with the children of Kenya.
