Albert Maglasang Ministries, Muntinlupa City, Philippines

During the first week of June 2019, Ends of the Earth Cycling brought five cyclists and five support staff together to join the 40th edition of BRAG - Bicycle Ride Across Georgia. Together, they rode 2,300 miles over seven days and raised over $6,500 for the youth of the Philippines.

The Philippines is home to almost 110 million people, over 53% of whom are youth. Our ministry works in Muntinlupa City, a suburb of Metro Manila. Metro Manila is a diverse city of over 12 million people ranging from the richest of the rich to the poorest child in the slums. Illegal drugs, child labor, human trafficking, prostitution, and HIV are very prevalent in our area and many are dying because of them. According to the latest data released by the Commission on Overseas Filipinos, there are more than 10 million Filipinos that are now working abroad. This causes many families to live separate while one parent goes to work and the other stays home with the family.

We are committed and passionate about training church and community youth leaders to combat these problems. We focus on youth leadership training, youth retreats and camps, community awareness seminars, campus ministry, and drug addiction recovery programs in partnership with local governments.  Our dream is to saturate the Philippines with our trainings and services and to equip the church to meet the needs of the youth in our communities. Along with that, we have a dream to build a youth center that would also serve as a training hub for youth workers throughout the Philippines.

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

1 Timothy 4:12

Serving young people cannot only prepare them to become future leaders, but also allow them to contribute to the church and community. This is seen many times in the Bible, as God often used young people to do great things. For example, God used Timothy to pastor and lead the Ephesian church when he was a teenager. 1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Investing in today’s youth is necessary in growing the body of Christ. Teaching young people in the church in the school and even in the park! to grow in their relationship with the Lord prepares them to serve Christ in all they do. As a result, this nurtures the congregation and allows the church and the community to flourish.

We believe Youth need guidance and support as they navigate through the most challenging part of their development and seek to grow in their walk with Christ. Christ-like leaders are needed to serve young members of the congregation and help them to reach their full potential.

This is the ministry philosophy of our youth ministry in the Philippines. We partner with different kinds of church youth ministries, campus ministries and youth-focused non-government organizations to help youth think and live like Jesus. This is what we've learned from our friends at YouthHOPE Global Ministry (a ministry of New International). And our team is so grateful for Ends of the Earth Cycling for helping us to raise prayers and financial support to sustain our programs. We are especially thankful that Ends Cycling conducted a ride for us in 2019. We used the funds for our campus ministries, inter-fellowships, youth evangelism/outreaches and training. The pictures below help illustrate what the Lord is doing with our youth ministry here in “The Pearl of the Orient” The Philippines.

This is the time when we’re asked to distance ourselves, but we crave connection. For our young people, this may add a greater level of anxiety, too. While getting extra days off of school may sound fun at first, it does bring big questions about teaching and learning modalities, sadness over sports and events being cancelled, challenging family logistics, and low-grade uncertainty that puts everyone on edge. We imagine that your youth ministries and churches are making big decisions right now. Lets pray for each other.

We would like to thank you, Ends of the Earth Cycling, for believing and trusting us! Please continue to partner with us to reach-out to more youth leaders and potential youth leaders, training them to serve their local ministries and communities. We pray for you guys! We love you all and God bless!
